9 Fruits of the Holy Spirit and Their Meanings

Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Lets Make it Clear FRom Biblical Point of View

  1. LOve
As to the latter, think of Paul’s great hymn to love: “Love – agape – is patient and kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth.

John 13:34-36 KJV
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

36 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.

  1. JOY

Having joy includes feeling good cheer and a vibrant happiness. But joy, in its fuller, spiritual meaning of expressing God’s goodness, involves more. It is a deep-rooted, inspired happiness. The Holy Bible says, “The joy of the Lord is your strength”

Proverbs 16:20. Those who listen to instruction will prosper; those who trust the Lord will be joyful

Hebrews 12:2 “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Proverbs 17:22 “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”

  1. Peace
PEACE (IN THE BIBLE) The Hebrew word for peace, šālôm, translated in the Septuagint most often by the Greek word, eirēnē, has a wide semantic range including the notions of totality or completeness, success, fulfillment, wholeness, harmony, security and well being.

Proverbs 16:7

“When a man’s ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.”

Isaiah 26:3

“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”

John 14:27

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

  1. Long Suffering

2 Coronthians 6:4-6 KJV
4 But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses,

5 In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings;

6 By pureness, by knowledge, by long suffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned,

  1. gentleness
Gentleness is the quality of being kind and careful. Your gentleness with a frightened stray dog will eventually convince her to let you feed and pet her. The noun gentleness is perfect for describing the way someone acts when they are soft and calm and sweet to other people.

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering.
Colossians 3:12 | KJV
A soft answer turneth away wrath:
but grievous words stir up anger.
Proverbs 15:1 | KJV

  1. Goodness
Goodness is action; it’s not something we do only for the sake of being virtuous. … In Greek, the word goodness, “agathosune,” means “an uprightness of heart and life” (Thayer & Strong, 1995). When we act out of true goodness of the heart, we are obedient to God’s commandments and seek the benefit of others

Matthew 5:16 says, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Goodness is not about doing elaborate things to gain recognition. Oftentimes, it is the small acts of goodness we do throughout our day that mean the most to those around us.

  1. Faith

Faith is the basic ingredient to begin a relationship with God. Faith is the assurance that the things revealed and promised in the Word are true, even though unseen, and gives the believer a conviction that what he expects in faith, will come to pass

Faith in the Bible
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! John 8:24 unless you believe that I am who I claim to be, you will die in your sins.

8.Meekness
Meekness is an attribute of human nature and behavior. It has been defined several ways: righteous, humble, teachable, and patient under suffering, long suffering willing to follow gospel teachings; an attribute of a true disciple

The meek shall inherit the Earth

The saying implies that those who forgo worldly power will be rewarded in the kingdom of heaven.

Meekness is an attribute of human nature and behavior. It has been defined several ways: righteous, humble, teachable, and patient under suffering, long suffering willing to follow gospel teachings; an attribute of a true disciple.

Matthew 5:5 KJV
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. … Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

9.Temperance
A. Temperance as Emotional Restraint or Self-Control. Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but one who has a hasty temper exalts.

2 Peter 1:6-8 KJV
[6] And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; [7] And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. [8] For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Brother Branham Quotes on Fruits of Spirit

Christians, oh, you must have a personal relationship to God. In order to be a son of God, you must become relation to God. He must be your Father in order for you to be a son.

And only His sons and daughters are saved, not the members of a church, but sons and daughters. There’s only one thing that will produce that; that’s the new birth. The new birth is the only thing that will produce a relationship to God. Is that right: sons and daughters.

Then when this takes place, then the man (Here’s the question I want to get to you.)–the man said, “What do we do then after we’ve been born again?” So many ask me that question. “What should I do then, Brother Branham?” If you are borned again, your entire nature is changed. You are dead to the things you once thought.

“Well,” you say, “Brother Branham, when I join the church, I got that.” Well, then when God said Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever; He still heals the sick. He still shows visions. “But, Brother Branham, my church…” Now, you’re not born again.

See? You can’t be, for if the very God, if His Life is in you, like you’re in the life of your father, and if the very Life of God is in you and the very Spirit that was in Christ in you, how can the Spirit live in Jesus Christ and write this and then come back down in you and deny that? See? Can’t do it. It’ll punctuate every word to be so.

Then if you say, “Well, I’m a good member of the church.” That don’t have one thing to do with it. I know the heathens, down in Africa amongst my dark brethren down there,

I find the morals of the people higher than ninety percent of the American people. Never found one case of venereal in the whole trip through South Africa. They don’t have such a thing. There you are. See, it’s just our own dirty filthy ways as white people. That’s right. Got away from God.

When this takes place, the thing you’ll do then, you’ll find out that the Spirit that comes in you from the new birth, you will believe and do everything that God says in His Word’s for you to do.

And everything that the Bible quotes for you to do, you’ll punctuate it with a “Amen.” And you’ll not stop day and night until you receive it. That’s right. That’s right. And in all this time, you’ll certainly above everything bear the fruit of the Spirit.

You say “Will I speak with tongues?” You might do that, and you might not. “Will I shout?” You might do that; you might not. But there’s one sure thing you will do. You will bear the fruit of the Spirit; and the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, faith, long-suffering, meekness, gentleness, patience…

How can I get the fruits of the spirit?
The best way to bear fruit is to stay connected to the vine, and that is Jesus. Remember that what you sow, you will reap. Sow to the spirit and you will reap the fruit of the Spirit. Spend time with God and you will grow in your ability to “have the mind of Christ.”

  1. BLESSINGS TO ALL! THANKS FOR ALL THE REVELATIONS! THE GIFTS AND THE FRUITS ARE THE TRUE METHOD FOR HONEST LIVING!
BY THE GRACE OF OUR FATHER WE HAVE ACCESS TO THEM! PRAISE JESUS,PHIL HULL

  2. We should reverence that. We—we—we—we can’t humble ourselves enough. Taking off your shoes, or getting on your knees, wouldn’t expel it; it wouldn’t—it wouldn’t satisfy it, wouldn’t suffice us; but a life that brings forth the fruit of the Spirit!
