What does the bible say about Halloween?

The Eleventh Commandment

The Eleventh Commandment

“You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.” “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.”

As Many People are making Halloween Celebration. And it’s not just for the kids. Sinful parties with ungodly costumes are everywhere this time of year. However, although it seems like October 31 is a creepy commemoration of communion with the dead – and like most things over the past 2,000 years, the Catholic church played an important role in the development of the holiday – the date should also hold a special place in our hearts. First, a bit of history about the origins of Halloween.

Halloween has its roots in some disturbing pagan practices. Around the same time that Jesus was on the earth, the Celts dominated what is now known as Ireland, the UK, and Northern France. They celebrated the New Year on November 1st, but on the night prior to the New Year, they believed that the line between the living and the dead became blurred. Celtic priests, or Druids, thought that this particular night allowed them to easily communicate with the dead and look into the future to foretell, or divine, things to come.

In order to conceal themselves and blend in with the evil spirits that were out in abundance this night, the Druids cloaked themselves in animal skins, skulls, bones, and whatever else they could find that looked like the spirits they wanted to talk to. You will notice that Halloween costumes are still often associated with death.

1.Leviticus 20:27

A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them

2. 1 Corinthians 10:21

Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

3.Matthew 5:13-14

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid

The Day Of The Dead Holy Days

By around A.D. 43, the Roman Empire ruled the former Celtic lands. The Romans combined two of their own festivals (celebrating the Roman Goddess of fruit and a day of commemorating the dead) with the Celtic tradition of divination (mentioned earlier). Mixing the celebrations was a good political move for the Romans. As we know from Balaam, Constantine, and numerous others, the devil has used the “mixing” spirit masterfully throughout history.

Sound strange so far? It gets worse when the Catholic Church gets involved.

A few hundred years later, in typical Catholic fashion of blending idolatry and Christianity, “All Saints Day” was established, and seemed to fit well with the Druid celebration of the dead. The holy day was put on November 1, the Celtic New Year. According to the church, All Saints Day, or “All Hallows Day” is a celebration of those who have “attained the beatific vision in Heaven.” Basically, it honors those who have died and gone to Heaven. In some cultures, people go to cemeteries to be with the souls of the departed and build private altars containing the favorite foods and beverages as well as photos and memorabilia of the departed. The intent is to encourage visits by the souls, so that the souls will hear the prayers and the comments of the living directed to them. November 1 is considered a “day of obligation,” which means that all Catholics must attend mass.

The Druid/Pagan celebration mentioned earlier fell on the eve of All Hallows Day (All Saints Day), so it is called Hallows Eve. Also known as Halloween. And… it gets worse (Don’t worry, it gets better at the end of the article.)

Holding to the politically-correct, all-inclusive spirit of the Catholic Church, they added another holiday on November 2. “All Souls Day” honors everyone that has died, whether they went to heaven or not. The “or not” part is a bit disturbing, but we won’t go into that in this article. Like the previous day, in some religious festivals the people dress as the dead, attempting to welcome spirits of the departed. This is the official “Day Of The Dead” and usually the last day of the celebration.

The True Celebration

This is when that frown can leave your face and you can start smiling again. Did you know that October 31 can also be considered one of the greatest days in the history of Christianity? It’s something rarely referred to by the Catholic Church, preferring rather to promote evil costumes and worship of the dead. Today is a little known holiday, started on October 31, 1517 that involves a church in Germany, ironically called All Saints Church. If you’ve read the Church Age book, then you know it as Castle Church.

This is the day that MARTIN LUTHER NAILED HIS 95 THESES TO THE DOOR OF CASTLE CHURCH IN WITTENBERG, GERMANY AND STARTED THE CHRISTIAN REFORMATION! It all began exactly 499 years ago today! Yes, the Catholic Church would rather honor anything, including ghouls and skeletons, than that!

So, as the world is celebrating skeletons and vampires, we can celebrate the beginning of a reformation that changed the world.

Halloween is a time of superstition, a celebration of the creepy things that send chills of the supernatural up our spines.   It is a holiday that has been taken advantage of by all kinds of marketing strategies, binding the children’s celebration with candies to the goods and services that are purchased by adults.  For many, it is a time of remembrance of the things that mankind would rather forget, but to the children, it is that one time in the year when your supply of candy is restocked to overflowing.

The other day in the Tucson paper, I was reading an article that where there was a–a woman driving down the road, I believe about forty, fifty miles an hour, and she hit an old man with an overcoat on. She screamed and stopped her car. It threw him up in the air. Right out in the plain desert! And she run back to find him, and he wasn’t there. So what did she do? Some people behind her saw it happen, saw the old man fly up in the air, and his overcoat turning. So they run back to find out. They couldn’t find the man anywhere. They called the police force. The police come out to examine the place; there was nobody there.

Well, each one of them testified, “The car chugged, hit the man. He went up in the air, and everybody saw it.” Witnesses, and two or three carloads of them, they seen it happen. Come to find out, five years ago, there was an old man with an overcoat on, hit and killed on the same spot.

When you leave here, you’re not dead. You’ve got to come back, even if you’re a sinner, and be judged according to the deeds done in the body. “If this earthly tabernacle is dissolved, we have one waiting.” En morphe, that’s the word.

But there is a Devil! Certainly is. And people worship the Devil, don’t even know what they’re doing… -WMB 65-0425

The devil’s got them. And it’s not only just normal to go out and be mean and—and—and take a gate off and hang it up in a tree on Halloween night, or do some little meanness like kids used to do, or take a farmer’s buggy and set it out in the road, not like that; but they’re insane. They do things that’s insanity; shoot you, kill you, murder you, poison you, anything. That’s the next generation. -WMB 60-0221

As the country is preparing to celebrate ghosts and the dead, Christians are putting their faith in the Holy Ghost and everlasting Life. Isn’t it a joy to know that we serve a Living God and believe a true Message brought by a vindicated prophet! There is no room in our lives for creepy goblins and ghostly ghouls. Our hearts are filled with faith and love. This weekend, make sure to remember who you are and what you stand for. For every false that the devil portrays before the world, there is a Real Truth, and we have It!

When you see an old witch out here on the street, a fortuneteller, hold out your hands, and, “You are so-and-so.” Remember, that witch is impersonating a real true prophet of God. That’s right. When you see anything false, it’s impersonating; it’s… Satan has perverted something and making a false conception of some real thing God has. -WMB 56-0815

As Brother Joseph has been telling the youth at Still Waters and the believers at the Tabernacle, we look to heroes and characters of a different kind. We look to God’s heroes of the Bible, and we are God’s heroes ourselves. We dress like them, act like them, listen to music and messages that tell us more about them. Then we become like the greatest hero of them all, our Lord Jesus Christ.

As believers, we can take a day that the world uses to honor satan and use it to honor the prophets and patriarchs of old. Isn’t it more becoming of a Christian to pay tribute to those like Abraham and Sarah, or Joshua and Caleb, than a ghost or goblin? Wouldn’t it be a greater testimony to speak about our Lord Jesus than to try to scare someone by acting like an evil creature? We should never let the enemy have a day, not even one.

The heroes of the Old Testament had faith; they put it in action. You’ve got them for an example. -WMB 55-1003

Whether it be on Halloween, or any other day, we should teach our children to shun the very appearance of evil, as the Bible teaches us. Encourage and teach them to model after the heroes of the Bible, rather than villains and heroes of the world. If they want to play dress-up, like so many kids love to do, use the opportunity to teach them about true, Christ-like characters that we should always portray and desire to be like. To make it even more fun and interactive, they can memorize Bible verses or phrases pertaining to their favorite Bible heroes or characters, or even put on a little drama.
